Final idea

We have decided that we are going to be doing a detective thriller instead of physcological. We have a definite idea and all we have to do now is to think of the title. Basically what we have decided is that there will be a group of girls who have just come off the bus. As theyare getting off the camera will zoom into the metro something which the audience will believe is irrelavant to the film. The headline will be about a unknown serial killer. Then the girls go to the park and they take some pictures. In the pictures they capture a guy killing someone in the background. They dont realise this but he does. When the girls have finished then they all go home and one says that she will go and develop the photos. This will take place in the dark room inside college. Once she prints the photos she realises this guy in the backround of one of them and the opening then ends. At first we had decided that the girl gets followed back to the dark room and then someone places their hand on her shoulder. However we changed this as this gives away the story to the audience to quickly. Im just finishing off My brief now.

...

I am so annoyed today. It just feels like we are getting nowhere. Basically Gerad was out of college and when I went to the lesson to do some work there was nobody there. Oh well my bad. Therefore I had to do some individual work. I carried on doing my research for sound artists and I also started writing out my brief. I also have some good ideas for the story board but before that I need my whole group together so that we can finalize our idea. I think that was enough work for me to do today. I will update soon with more ideas and research

Forgot to mention....

Wow.
Gerrad showed us a clip for the film Dressed to kill. Although it wasnt the opening sequence I really enjoyed this and it has inspired me with some ideas. I really wanted to watch the rest of dat. It was like we as the audience knew what was going to happen in advance. Looks really wiked. Dats all for today.
Tomorrow hopefully our group would have a final idea so that we can work on our story board aswell before we go onto the filming which is something that I cant wait for.

Finally

yay, im happy
We finally have a set idea in our head now. I not gonna put it down yet because it isnt really confirmed but we are looking at the dark room in college to do the filming. I reckon we are definatley going to go for physcological thriller.
Dats all for now. I havn't carried out alot more research on sound yet because I want to focus on my brief or else Gerard wouldnt mark it. (lol).

Group Work

Yesterday, in our groups we were just thinking of some initial ideas. Although some of the ideas were weird and strange we thought we will record them as they were the first things that came into our heads. Noha had thought of the Photography dark room at college as a location to film our thriller opening sequence. Hodan has thought of the outside of central library to be a good place to film as she believes that it is something different and the scenery is good. She says that the film would be capturing things that it is not supposed to capture. she refered to the Enemy of the States as a good example. Finally my idea on locations was Birmingham Airport. I just felt that an airport was somethig different and it would work well however it would be very hard to film at Birmingham Airport. I was thinking of having a car chase in the opening sequence however this is just a thought. Got to go now but im going to be back soon hopefully with some more ideas and research.
Bye for now.

Comparing the Old and the New

I found that the latest thriller movies are much better then the old ones. The old ones are just classics and are mostly romantic rather then thriller. However the new ones show all the conventions of a typical horror film. I prefered the new ones better. Right now I am looking at sound artists and their work in thriller movies. I will put in some feedback for that tommorow.

Researching The New

Wow. Ive just wathed the opening sequene for No Country For Old Men which is directed by Ethan and Joen Coel in 2007. I think it was really cool. The opening sequence starts off really slow but then it gradually picks up speed and everything starts going fast. The music and sound aslo gradually changes. At first it is really calm but then suddenly it gets louder and it looks like tenson has started to build up. I loved it. I also watched Hotel Rwanda by Terry George. I think this also has a good opening to it. I liked the way sound was used in this movie aswell. Both of these openings have inspired me slightly and I am starting to think about how I would use sound in my thriller movie aswell. I also found that most of the thriller movies were either based on a book or based on a true story therfore we will base ours on a book aswell. Just an idea that I thought of.

Researching the Old

Hey everyone.
Ive just been on IMDB and you tube and was searching for some thriller films. I started off by looking at some of the old black and white thrillers because I wanted to compare how they are made compared to the thriller movies in cinemas today. So far I have been watching Rebecca which was directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1940. This has a fantastic opening sequence to it and the movie itself has a sub genre of romantic thriller which is interesting. Amongst the others that I have been watching is The Third Man which was directed by Carol Reed in 1949. I didn't like the opening of this film. I noticed the sound was not very suitable for the film. it didnt make it sound like a thriller film at all. I am going to look at some latest thriller films now.
Catch you Later.

Getting Thinking...

I just got a few ideas into my head today. Firstly I recalled watching Silence of The Lambs in class yesterday and I found it interesting that the main character in there was female whereas normally the main character is male. This inspired me therefore I would like our main character to be female however I need to run this through with the rest of my group. I was also thinking about whether we are going to do the opening of a thriller movie or just the title sequence. After talking to Noha and Hodan I found that they prefered to do the actual opening and I prefered to do the title sequence. Therefore as a gropu decision we have decided to do the opening sequence for the time being. Thats all for today. Tommorow I am going to try and research different sound artists for thriller movies and I will look at the way that they work.
Bye for now.

Finally tonight...

Today im going to leave it here. I have just been on Google and youtube and i have been looking at some of the thriller films that David Fincher has directed. I havn't found much on sound in thriller films yet but im going to have a better look tomorow.
Catch you later.

Class disscussions

Hey its only me,
Todays lesson was cool. We started off by looking at different types of thriller and the one that I found most interesting at the moment was physcological thriller, however I want mine to be something unique but physcological thriller is actually very common. We also looked at some more examples of the opening sequence for thriller movies. The one I enjoyed the most was Seven which was directed by David Fincher. I am thinking of basing my thriller on a novel as I have researched that most thriller movies are based on novels. Finally we came up with our groups. I am working in a group of three. Hodan will be doing the editing, I will be doing the sound and Noha will be doing the cinematography. I am going to look up how sound is used in thriller films.

Introduction

Hey everyone!

I am creating this blog to help me keep on track and upto date with all my work that I do between now and Easter. As part of my coursework I have to do the opening sequence of a thriller movie which has a 15-18 certificate audience. I started this work today therefore I havent thought of much ideas yet. At the moment I am thinking about who I would like to work with in a group and I am hoping to work with some talented and reliable people. In the mean time I am going to carry on with starting to plan out how I am going to structure my work altogether and I am going to look at the opening sequence for other thriller films. I am looking forward to start the practical work.

Bye for now.
