Finally

Yesterday we did successfully film our park scene and finished off all the filming. In todays lesson Hodan will hopefully be filming and Noha will be helping her. at the moment i am on google researching different sound effects and i am trying to get ideas for our sound. we have until the 7th of march to finish all the filming. after the 7th of march i am going to be focusing on my planning folder and getting it up to date so that i can enhance my marks. for now i am just looking at sounds.

Whats happening

Well to start of with we wont be in tommorows lesson as we are using this time effectively and will finish filming our last two scenes in small Heath park. We have also decided to do the bus scene after all if we have time although we keep changing our mind. lol. Anywayz once we have filmed our footage we will come back to college and put the footage onto the computer. we will then use fridays lesson and any other time during this week to finish editing. in the mean time i have been looking at different sound affects via google. i will carry on doing this during the weekend so that on monday i can put on the sound. For the rest of next week we will finalize our footage and we will hopefully have a complete opening to hand in to gerard. So thats lots of work to do. in abit

Back again

I just updated about 10 minutes ago but seen as i have nothing else to do at the moment im back. after editing the scene that we have filmed we have nothing else to do today. the people that we are using to be in our film all going to be free on thursday and fridays lesson, therefore until then i will be focusing on how to do sound. I have been speaking to Sarah as Gerard is in a meeting and she has agreed to help me with how to use sound in my opening sequence. Therefore in the lesson tommorrow i will hopefully be working on the sound. in the mean time i willbe looking at different sounds in thrillers. i have decided that we are not going to play a song but we will come up with our own composed music as i have researched and found that this works better in thrillers.

We finally filmed our scene in the 'dark room' and we are happy with it. last time we filmed we didnt have a clue as to what we were doing and we had lots of zooms. when we looked back on it we really didnt like it therefore we decided that we will film it again. therefore on thursdays lesson we filmed tne dark room scene and completed it. On fridays lesson we then started to edit this scene and we were successful in doing so. we now have one and a half scene to film. once these are done we will edit these aswell and finally we will move onto sound. Hopefully by the start of march the filming and editing will be conpleted and we will just finish things off to make the openeing sequence of the thriller complete.

Change Of Plan

We have had to change things slightly. As we feel that we are falling back on a lot of things and Noha, our cinematographer has not been in college me and Hodan have made some decisions. We were supossed to do a scene on the bus where the girls come off the bus. However we have been unsuccessful in doing this as the bus is always quite busy. Therefore instead of the girls getting off the bus and walking to the park we will just show them walking to the park. Therefore we will cut the whole bus scene out.
I hope we do finish this on time. im getting worried.

Filming

Another thing i never mentioned.
On friday 8th febuary we started filming our dark room scene. It went really well however we kept that as a practise because as we watched back on it we had made a lot of mistakes. one of the main mistakes was the amount of times that we zoomed in. this does not look good in a proffessional film therefore we will be filming this scene again. i must say it was gud fun and gud practise though.

Reccae

Hey
Ive just been so busy latley I forgot to mention our reccae. During the last two weeks before we broke up for the holidays me and my group went around inside and outside college to check our locations and if everything was suitable to film. We thought that we can film the park scene in Cranes park which is in Small Heath and we will film the bus scene on the 57, 60 or 50 bus. we are just looking for a quite day to film on the bus however if this isnt possible then i can use adr or something to record what was said on the bus back at college. finally we went to the dark room but we had a problem. we are not allowed to expose any light at all in the dark room not even the light of the camera therefore we made our own darkroom between floor 4 And 5 at college.
Hopfully we can film in all these places now.

Filming the dark room scene

In todays lesson me and my group took the camera out to film our first scene. The scene we filmed will go at the end of the opening sequence however we filmed it first as it is the only scene that we will be filming in college. We used the area between floor 4 and 5 as the dark room, we turned it into a set to make it look like it is a dark room. I think that this worked well.We finished filming and took it back to watch. Whilst we were watching it we realised quite a few mistakes in it, therefore we have decided to film this scene again and make it better. We have also booked out the camera for the half term to film in the park and on the bus. Hopefully when we come back after the half term we will nearly be ready to do the editing. I am going to look at different sound artists for detectiive thrillers now and hopefully I will find a few that will inspire me.

The Photograph

Today we have finally decided that the name of our film will be the Photograph because it is all based on the Photograph. We took the camera out today and we were filming the dark room but we found that it was to dark in there and we are not allowed to use any light at all. Therefore as we were on our reccae we discovered a place between floor 4 and 5 at college and we have decided that we will use that as the dark room. we have been on lots of different reccaes so far. we had decided on using the park by college but we have changed this now as well. this is because we are filming the park scene in the half term and we have decided to go with small heath park. I have just finished my written planning and submitted it. During th weekend and the holidays aswell as doing the filming we are all doing individual research on areas so that when we come back we will have a fair idea on what we will be doing whilst putting in the sound and doing the editing.

Funny dat after plannig everything i remebered that we havn't even thought of a name. as i was on da bus yesterday i got thniking and some funny ideas came to my head. I was thinking of names like THE BUS, THE PHOTOGRAPH AND LOCATION. however we want a name that is very random and it is really eye catching. these were just some funny ideas. i doubt it that we are going to keep these.

This was really good based on the sound that has been used. There was also good use of cinematography and sound but there was nothing to show me that this was a detective thrille. the only way that i was able to tell was by the music that was used. this created a tensed atmosphere and also created suspension within the audience.

this was a 12 minutes film and to be honest with you it nearly put me to sleep. it was really boring. It had good use of cinematography and editing however the sound wasnt really that good. it just sounded like they picked out a good track from an album and justb played it. however there was good use of diegetic and non diegetic sound.

This is all im doing for today. Its been a long day and I have got a long day tommorow. Going to spend the weekend researching sound artists aswell as watching more detective thrillers and writing out my planning. I will be updating my blog on the weekend.

Inspector X and the eternal city (2006)

This was the title sequence. It wasnt really that good When I first saw it I thought it was a title sequence for some sort of childrens movie.
After this I watched the best bits from the movie and I got some ideas on how to use sound. I like the use of diegetic and non diegetic sound and also the usic score. This is the link to the best bits:

I also liked the way cinematography and editing has been used in this movie.
This was a detective thriller.

Todays Lesson

Todays lesson was really good. Gerard showed us some examples of thrillers that students had filmed before. They were all good in their own ways but I liked one in particular. It was one where the group used cimematography, sound and editing really well and the filming was also really good. These videos gave me and my group some ideas for what we should include in our opening sequence and about what we shouldnt include. After looking at the videos I realised that most of them used songs aslo known as music track. However I believe that this becomes quite boring after a while therefore I am looking at doing music score where I will be coming up with my own sound which goes with what is happening in the opening sequence of the thriller. I also want to add some diegetic sound and some non-diegetic sound because I want the music in our thriller to sound like it has been done by a real sound artist. I am now going to look at some examples of detective thrillers so that I can get some ideas on the sound to use. After this I will be looking at different types of sound in thriller movies.

Schedule

Hey everyone
Finally fixed a schedule for our filming and hopefully we will stick with this schedule. This week we got all of our planning done finally and now we are focusuing on filming. We have booked the camera for mondays lesson and we will be spending most of next week filming the scene for the bus. After this it will be the half term. During this time we will be doing individual research on our own topics therefore in my case it will be the sound. We have also decided that we can meet up at some point if we really need to.When we come back we will use this week to film the park and possibly half of the next week to film the dark room scene. Once we have done this our filming will be done and we will have to focus on the editing and sound. I believe that I will need atleast three to four days to get the sound sorted. When this has been completed then the filming will be out of the way and we will just finish off anything that has to be sorted out. Our aim is to finish by atleast the third week of febuary if not earlier but nothing later than this.
